Why rolling around the world?

I always say in conferences that I am 
a double agent because I can walk
but I also go on my wheelchair, scooter or
walker, that way I can see the differences in 
the types of accessibility.

This post is specially for all my non Spanish speaking friends that always ask me for a post in English to tell them what I do and why.

Tourism was my first course of study, not the only one but the one that gave a sense to my purpose in life.

Traveling is amazing for all those who love doing it. When you have a disability the only difference is that it takes more time to plan it, but that is just about it.

In this blog I write about places that are nice and suitable for people travelling with limited mobility, or with different kinds of challenges. 

I understand by limited mobility, those people who walk with aids like canes, clutches or those who get around in a wheelchair or a scooter.

The reason why I write in Spanish is because there is a deeper need of information in this language than there is in English. 

Anyhow, as many posts have plenty of pictures of toilets mainly in hotels, restaurants or museums, these images can be very useful even for people that speak different languages.

In this blog I write about DESTINATIONS, HOTELS, SERVICES, ATTRACTIONS, TOURISM SERVICES, HELPING AIDS AND URBANISM. 

My posts are always aiming to cheer people up towards travelling. I find that people with different disabilities stop themselves from leaving home because they do not have enough informations about their needs. 

The posts also specify if the attraction, hotel or city is suitable for people with what kind of mobility and or challenge.

There are two ways of getting to find what you need in the blog, one is browsing month by month on the right side of the posts and clicking on the desired title. Another one is writing key words on the window that is on the top left side of the blog. 

Words like Disney, Las Vegas, Praga (Prague), Venecia (Venice), Paris, Estambul(Istambul), Madrid, Barcelona, Cuba, Ayudas Técnicas (helping aids), Servicios (services).  

Key words are in Spanish. I am trying to update them to English so getting to the posts could be easier.

After this words I will post some pics of the blog and under them in the description, I will paste the links to them.

Another thing that helps a lot is that when I write about a Destination for instance, in the end of the post I always paste the links to related items such as, transportation, hotels, museums and services in the same place.

As I write in  different magazines there are also some articles in Portuguese, which can be enjoyed and pics of the printed version of them.

TANGO y Accesibilidad en Café de los Angelitos.

En un día como cualquiera me sentí incluida, y pude transitar libremente dentro del Café de Los Angelitos, un lugar muy querido de mi bella ciudad. 

Lo quiero compartir con ustedes, los que la visitan por negocios o para hacer turismo. Es un sitio de importancia histórica, que hasta un tango tiene con su nombre. El tango lo pueden escuchar aquí Café de los Angelitos y al mismo tiempo pueden ver en el video su fachada original y también la actual.  

Para entrar sólo hay que abrir una de sus dos puertas de hoja ancha que son vaivén y sin ninguna barrera para entrar al instante uno se siente transportado a otra época.

Lo que uno siente se ve acentuado por grandes detalles como los mozos de oficio, personas mayores, que visten saco, camisa, moño y algunos ‘cristal’ una servilleta blanca colgando de uno de sus brazos. 

Las mesas se encuentran con una separación adecuada para que una silla de ruedas transite libremente. 

Las sillas son de madera y con un respaldo que te abraza como invitando a bailar un tango. Ellas también me hacen acordar a los bares a los que iba de chica.

Tal como dice la letra del tango el café está en Rivadavia y Rincón. Esto es a sólo dos cuadras del Congreso de la Nación. 

Se encuentra abierto desde la mañana hasta la madrugada, asique se pueden hacer las cuatro comidas allí. 

En la barra hay una colección de panes dulces de elaboración propia cada uno con su lata con logo del lugar para llevarse a casa. 

Al final del mostrador hay una heladera esquinera repleta de tortas entre las que es difícil elegir.

CÓMO LLEGAR

Es una zona muy bien conectada, todos los buses que pasan por Rivadavia, el subte a dos cuadras y el bus turístico de la ciudad, el amarillo de doble piso, para frente a su puerta. Si llega en auto, al lado del café pegadito por la calle Rincón sobre la misma vereda hay un estacionamiento pago.

METAMORFOSIS

El Café de los Angelitos tiene una oferta muy versátil. Posee un gran espacio para bar y restaurante. Por la noche brinda un espectáculo de tango destacable del que hablaré en otro post, del que sólo les adelanto algunas fotos, es como un pequeño teatro con mesas para disfrutar una rica cena ambientado en Celeste pastel y dorado.

En el subsuelo hay un pequeño y acogedor salón para reuniones con cañón y pantalla, que lo hace factible de usar para negocios o pequeñas reuniones.

TODOS LOS ESPACIOS QUE DETALLÉ SON PERFECTAMENTE ACCESIBLES, SE PUEDE ANDAR CON UNA SILLA DE RUEDAS SIN PRECISAR NINGÚN TIPO DE AYUDA.

El baño accesible

Posee un baño accesible correcto, esto quiere decir que sus dimensiones son justas. El mismo con algunos cambios podría ser más cómodo. Posee lavabo, inodoro alto, barra pivotante y una fija en la pared. La transferencia es hacia la derecha. Está ubicado en el subsuelo, se accede tomando un ascensor en el que entra una silla y una persona parada.

Quiero contarles algunos detalles e invitarlos a ir aún si viven en Buenos Aires o en el resto de Argentina porque es un lugar pensado para locales y extranjeros con gran variedad de opciones para disfrutar a toda hora.

Es inevitable en este viaje hacia el pasado, mirar hacia arriba y descubrir los vitreaux, las arañas y las innumerables fotos antiguas encuadradas prolijamente. Es imponente el telón cerrado que separa una parte del Bar con la parte en donde se desarrolla el espectáculo de noche. Los días domingos se sirve un servicio de té que se acompaña de un pequeño espectáculo con una pareja que baila y una actriz que recita poemas.

Para ser sincera, iba a una reunión comercial esperando encontrarme con lo de siempre, un escalón en la puerta, esperar a que abran la segunda hoja para entrar, aguantar las ganas de ir al baño, pues seguramente se encontrará en un primer piso o subsuelo por escalera. Chocarme las rodillas contra una mesa en la que no pudiera sentarme y podría así seguir la lista de lo básico que sucede en un bar al llegar con una silla de ruedas.

Me sorprendí gratamente con todo desde el acceso exterior, la rampa correcta en la vereda de la calle Rivadavia y otra un poco más exigida en la calle Rincón.

Una vez adentro del local, simplemente pasé inadvertida, pude FLUIR POR TODOS LOS ESPACIOS, nadie tuvo que ayudarme a hacer nada. Los mozos, aunque gente mayor, jamás me miraron con cara de pena, angustia o lástima.

Eso fue simplemente maravilloso, volveré a disfrutarlo a distintas horas. Esperen los POST!

Pasion and body to body in a tango Show

Partial accesibility for people with mobility impairmaints and great for people with hearing, visual and food special needs.

I had a quite indescriptible amount of feelings in El Barracas Tango show in Buenos Aires. The wonderful experience of feeling in the forties or fifties, the feeling of being a foreigner in my country, in my city and even in my neighbourhood was truly amazing.

There is a step to enter and there are no accessible toilets for a person going with a wheelchair. 
There is a women's toilet in the ground level and a men's one in the first storey. The manager told me that when there is a man with reduced mobility he can use women WC upon a waitress supervision. It is very important to remember that a person in a wheelchair can not expect to go to the toilet in 5 hours counting the time of transfer in and out from hotel to the show.

As it is a historical building they had to go through red tape to make a new WC.
The place is a wonderful restored bar, where the famous movie called SUR, winner in the CANNES Festival, was filmed. 

It was also the bar where 'polaco Goyeneche' used to sing and the frst place where Adriana Varela, famous tango singer, started her career.

It is located in the historical Barracas neighbourhood, which most of the times is overlooked by many tour guides and it has lots to do with the other two very famous ones La Boca and Monserrat.

The food is great. Iñaki Goldin, formerly the chef of the Buenos Aires Four Seasons Hotel is young and open to new food trends. He is also taking into account accessibility in food matters. He said that he would have no problems in providing food choices for people with special needs such as being celiac, diabetic or hipertense.

Another innovation is that after every course there is a tango show, that makes the whole experience one of neverending. As it is in front of a train station sometimes it feels that is raining, but when you rise your eyes you see the rails as if you were by the Chicago down town train.

There is always a clear view of the wonderful dresses, shoes and men night suits. As it can only sit 75 people the place is cozy, singers and dancers come from different places always near from somebody. The quantity of guests that can attend the show make it a vip one, more expensive than others but it's totally worth it.

I have lots of friends and followers that are not Spanish Speaking people. I keep on saying that, this blog is in Spanish because there is way more need of info about accessibility in Spanish than in English. 
I also sometimes write in Portuguese, just in case that, that language fits you better.
